Honest Beauty Makeup Haul Part 2 (2017) & First Impressions

fullsizerenderHello Beauties!

By now you should know that I am completely obsessed with Honest Beauty makeup! I have reviewed a few other products from their line in my first haul in which i was thoroughly impressed (link here). Not only do they use safe, mostly natural ingredients, it is quality high performance makeup that is comparabale and even better than mainstream makeup. I love how you can create fast looks with their products as they are made for on the go busy women. I love using natural makeup products, but they also have to perform well and that is exactly what Honest Beauty does. Not to mention the packaging is beautiful, modern, and simple. I will say though their makeup is made to enhance natural beauty and therefore look natural on the skin.

As I live in Australia, I unfortunately cannot get it shipped to me (I hope in the future they change this), and was lucky enough to have a family member purchase these whilst on holidays. I think that the pricing is fair as you are paying for quality, safe ingredients. Although not all the ingredients are natural and organic, I am ok with using safe synthetics. I always give my honest opinion in my reviews as I want to recommend only the best products that are safe and effective to my friends.

Now let’s get to the first impressions…

Honest Beauty Creme Blush in Truly Exciting (US $22)

This is the first cream blush I have ever owned and I absolutely love it! I have fair skin and the colour is perfect for me. It’s described as a pink rose, which is a perfect description. I bought this to wear over the tinted moisturiser on more natural makeup days. It’s very creamy and easy to work with. Its pigmented, but not to the extent of being difficult to work with as you can sheer it out. It’s easily buildable and prefer to use my fingers with this product but you can definitely use a stipple brush. It doesn’t feel thick or sticky as the formula is very thin and lightweight. It doesn’t set to a powder finish, it just gives you this natural, healthy glow. As most days I wear the Jane Iredale purepressed base, I do wish they would make a powder version of this colour.

This has a soft fruity/berry scent, as it’s infused with fruit extracts like raspberry, which I enjoy. As I’m sensitive to fragrance, I love that it isn’t strong and doesn’t linger on the face once applied. You could also use this on your lips to get a more uniform look. I also love the packaging as it is compact and travel friendly. I haven’t noticed any irritation or breakouts when I wore this product, but will update you if I do. I will definitely be purchasing more colours in the future! I would most definitely recommend this product if you are into cream blushes and this shade would suit a variety of skin tones.

Honest Beauty Concealer Duo in Vanishing Vanilla (US$20)

I purchased this product for on the go spot concealing. I love how compact it is, making it perfect for your purse. This shade is perfect for my fair to light skin tone with yellow undertones. I love how it comes with two shades to mix and match depending on your skintone. The darkest shade is almost peachy to me, which could work quite well for dark cirlces. I have used it under my eyes and find it a little bit too drying and it creases and prefer the brightness and creaminess of my RMS beauty un coverup.

I do however love the coverage it gives for spot concealing, especially when used with the real techniques accent brush as it is small and stiff, allowing to pack on the product. I then go in with my fingers to lightly blend out any harsh edges. It looks very natural and almost undetectable on the skin. You need to warm up the product as it is a little bit dry before applying onto your blemish. The formula is also good for blemishes as it’s not too creamy so it will stay put and not slide around. I would describe the coverage as high medium. I would recommend this to someone looking to spot conceal small blemishes and that doesn’t have a lot of serious skin issues to cover.

Ingredients: Castor Isostearate Beeswax Succinate, Mica, Octyl-Dodecanol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Prunusamygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Silica, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Trihydroxystearin, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax (Copernicia Cerifera Cera, Ciredecarnauba), Butyrospermumparkii (Shea) Butter, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis (Marigold) Flower Extract, Glycerin, Glyceryl Behenate, Water (Aqua, Eau), Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Citral. Honest Beauty Luminizing Powder in Dusk Reflection (US$25)

I already knew I was going to fall in love with this product as I love the luminizing powder in Midnight Reflection (their highlighter). Dusk Reflection is a luminizing bronzer with very fine shimmer that is undetectable on the skin, giving you a natural healthy glow. This was my favourite product from everything I got. At first, I was worried at how dark it looked in the pan, but once applied it is so natural and beautiful. You won’t get any harsh contouring from this product as Honest Beauty makeup is about enhancing your natural beauty, but there is a good amount of pigment in this product. I always get compliments on how nice my makeup looks when wearing this! The colour is perfect too, not too orangey and not too ashy, just a subtle summer bronze. I think this would suit light to medium skin tones as I don’t think it is dark enough for darker skin tones.

I have been reaching for this every time I do my makeup to warm up my face or to contour as it’s so natural. It is very buildable so you are aren’t going to dip your brush in it once and get too much product which I like. You can definitely use a heavy hand with this product. It allows you to control how much you want. I prefer using the Real Techniques blush brush to bronze all over or my Inika blush brush for more precise contouring. The formula is also very silky and easy to blend as it’s a baked face powder. I find it very longwearing and don’t notice any breakouts from using this (but again will keep you posted). The only con about this product is how bulky the packaging is. I love how much product you get, however it isn’t very travel friendly. I wish they would make a trio palette with the highlighter, blush, and bronzer. Other than that, I would highly recommend this product as it has become my absolute favourite. You will not regret it!

Ingredients: Mica, Silica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Caprylyl Glycol, Lauroyl Lysine, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Tocopherol, Hectorite, Sodium Dehydroacetate. May Contain +/-: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491/77492/77499).

Honest Beauty True Velvet Eyeliner in Eye Opener (US$16)

Because I spent so much money at the store, they threw this lovely gem in as a free gift! And I’m glad they did because I have been wearing it every single day since I got it. I love their eyeliners in black and cocoa, so I knew I would fall in love with this shade. It is described as an eye brightening nude shade. It is perfect to line the inside of your waterline to brighten up tired eyes and to make your eyes appear more open (great for someone with smaller eyes). It is great for sensitive skin as it contains plant based conditioning ingredients that won’t irritate your eyes.

It is a true nude that looks natural and wearable and deposits the right amount of pigment. It doesn’t give you that creepy doll eyed effect as most nude liners do. It’s long wearing and undetectable. I really recommend Honest Beauty eyeliners as their formula is creamy and smooth but they don’t transfer and the packaging is also great. The sponge tip, which I actually use it not hard but really soft and squishy, blending out the liners perfectly.

Ingredients: Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax (Euphorbia Cerifera Cera, Cire de Candelilla), Silica, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax (Copernicia Cerifera Cera, Cire de Carnauba), Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate. May Contain +/-: Mica (CI 77019), Iron Oxides (CI 77491/77492/77499).

Honest Beauty Everything Primer (US$27)

I was really excited to get my hands on this product as its a cult beauty favourite of Jessica Alba’s (and who doesn’t want to look like her!) and has won Allure’s Best of Beauty Award. First of all the packaging is to die for! It reminds me a lot of the Chanel packaging. It’s very chic and modern. It was also a lot smaller than what I thought, but that’s ok. It does have my favourite Honest Beauty signature scent, orange flower water, but it isn’t obnoxious in any way. It comes in a squeeze tube which you have to shake and not squeeze right away to get the product out otherwise you will struggle quite a bit. The nozzle controls the right amount of product that is squeezed out. The product itself is a bronzy shimmery colour, which is supposed to add a subtle golden glow to the skin.

I’m not a big primer person as I find it to be an extra step, so my main purpose of using this was to add a subtle golden glow to my skin either alone or under the tinted moisturiser. I also want to use this to increase the longevity of the tinted moisturiser. I have only worn this once so I cannot completely decide how I feel about this yet. It did sink in really well, was hydrating and yet not sticky once it dried. I didn’t notice a whole lot of glow or shimmer as it is very subtle and my moisturiser is quite glowy already (I apply this over my moisturiser as I have dry skin). I do like that this has hyaluronic acid to help plump up lines as I do struggle with smile lines. I didn’t notice it doing anything with my pores as I don’t struggle with large pores. I didn’t notice any breakouts from this as I usually notice within the first day of wearing something new. However, I will keep testing this out and update you guys later. As of right now, I am undecided whether or not to recommend this product…I don’t love it and I don’t hate it.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua, Eau), Cetearyl Olivate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Coco-Caprylate, Glycerin, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Sorbitan Olivate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Arginine, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Cocoglycerides, Glyceryl Stearate, Tribenenin, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Scierotium Gum, Paeonia Albiflora Root Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-19, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Water Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Dimethicone, Lauroyl Lysine, Capryloyl Glycine, Undecylenoyl Glycine, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citric Acid, Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491).

Honest Beauty Tinted Moisturiser Oil Free SPF 20 in Cream (US$28)

I had purchased the normal version of the tinted moisturiser as I have dry skin, but funnily enough this turned out to be more hydrating (even though it’s marketed for oil skin). I prefer the oil free version so much better than the normal one, as so many other people with dry skin too. I also love the white matte packaging a lot better and the tube is a lot easier to squeeze the product out of. I have used my fingers, a brush, and a beauty blender to apply this. I found using a really dense brush, like the Sephora mineral powder brush (pictured above) to be the best at blending this. The formula is still thick like the normal one, so you have to spend a bit of time blending and spreading this out to avoid it looking cakey. I love the finish of this better as it looks a lot more dewy but it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin no matter how many layers you put on. However, it does feel tacky so if you hate that feeling you will need to set this.

As it is a tinted moisturiser, don’t expect to get full coverage with this. I have light scars to cover and for me I would call this light to medium buildable coverage. It does a fantastic job at evening out your skin tone, which is the purpose of a tinted moisturiser. The colour looks orange at first but once you blend it in, because its so sheer, it matches perfectly. However if you have porcelain skin with yellow undertones, this will be too dark. This isn’t long wearing at all, but is perfect for running errands. It looks very natural and soft focus on the skin, if applied with light layers. It has my favourite orange flower water scent, but again it’s not overpowering and doesn’t linger once on the skin. I noticed when I was cleansing my face after wearing this, my skin was a lot more hydrated, smooth and supple. It felt as though all the natural oils in my skin were balanced. I didn’t notice any breakouts when wearing this, as it felt very lightweight and comfortable on the skin. I would highly recommend the Oil Free version for those natural makeup days, with the added benefit of broad spectrum sun protection.

Honest Beauty Truly Kissable Lip Crayon Demi-Matte in Honey Kiss (US$18)

This was another winner for me! This was also a favourite of Jessica’s so of course I had to pick it up. It was also the only nude from the demi-matte lip crayons. Honey Kiss is described as a soft nude. It is a very wearable soft pink nude that would suit a lot of skin tones. It’s very pigmented so you only need one swipe to get full coverage. I love the twist up packaging so there’s no sharpening needed. The crayon is shaped perfectly to effortlessly draw on the lips. The product is very creamy so if you live in a hot climate like I do, it will melt. It smells exactly like the creme blush, a very pleasant fruit scent. The texture of this product is very interesting. Its creamy but very lightweight at the same time, and almost feels powdery when dried.

You have to have exfoliated, hydrated lips to wear this as it can cling onto dry patches and accentuate any lines on the lips. This pairs perfectly when worn under the Honest Beauty lip gloss in Generous Kiss to create that perfect nude lip. Because of all the nourishing ingredients in this, your lips will feel incredibly soft even after the product has worn off. This does wear for a couple of hours, but you will definitely need to reapply. I highly recommend checking out their lip crayons, and they even have more sheer glossy ones if you don’t like the matte look!

Ingredients: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Silica, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax (Euphorbia Cerifera Cera, Cire De Candelilla), Beeswax (Cera Alba, Cire d’Abeille), Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax (Copernicia Cerifera Cera, Cire de Carnauba), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seedwax, Pyrusmalus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Rubusidaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Water (Aqua, Eau), Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) Fruit Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Tocopherol, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Triethyl Citrate, Glyceryl Undecylenate, Alcohol. Honest Beauty Lip Gloss in Generous Kiss (US$18)

I absolutely love this lip gloss!!! Finally a lip gloss that is not sticky. Like the Bite Beauty lip glosses, this gloss will leave your lips feeling hydrated even after it has worn off. They will feel incredibly soft! The formula is perfectly thin and comfortable, but also hydrating and smooth. It’s very pigmented, but your lips but better colour. It’s the right amount of glossy making your lips look super luscious and full. You can wear it alone or over the top of Honey Kiss lip crayon if you find it’s too nude. The gloss is more of a rosy pink nude to me and balances out the lip crayon. They work perfectly together and never goop up or feel heavy. The wand is amazingly soft, flexible and flat so it’s very easy to use. The only con is that there is no scent to this. I would have liked a berry scent like the lip crayon, but it doesn’t bother me too much that there isn’t one. I would highly recommend you get yourself a gloss from honest beauty. It is probably my favourite from the whole collection so far!

Overall, I am so impressed with the quality and performance of Honest Beauty products. I would highly recommend you check them out. Those of you who like that natural, everyday, no makeup look would especially love this line. I do wish they would offer international shipping as it is difficult to get a hold of.

Honest Beauty Review

Hello Beauties!

FullSizeRender 16Today I have an exciting review for you all! I was lucky enough to pick up some products from Jessica Alba’s eco friendly, natural beauty line, Honest Beauty, when travelling in LA. As I live in Australia, I unfortunately cannot purchase any products online as they don’t ship internationally. I have been using these products since September 2015, so I feel like I can give quite a decent review on each product. What I love about this line is that not only are the ingredients safe, natural, and minimal, the products actually perform better than my other conventional high end products, and has even replaced them! I am very picky when it comes to my skincare and makeup products, so you will get my honest opinion. Overall, I was really impressed with most of the products and can’t wait to get my hands on some more if they do ship international in the future.

Luminizing Powder in Midnight Reflection (USD $25)

This was my first highlight purchase and I love it! You do get quite a lot of product (10.0 g / 0.35 oz.), so this will definitely last you a while. From what I can see, this highlight has a very golden/yellow undertone to it, which I like. If you have very fair skin like me, I find that you need to use a few light layers to achieve a healthy, glowy look. I like how it’s very subtle and buildable if you want a more noticeable glow. I also love how it doesn’t look shimmery or fake, it really looks like your glowing from within. It almost looks wet, like you’ve applied a cream highlighter. This doesn’t emphasise any texture for me, but rather smoothes the skin and almost makes it look filtered or blurred. I apply this with the Real Techniques Setting Brush, which is perfect for applying on top of the cheekbones. I also apply this on my brow bone, down the bridge of my nose, cupids bow, the inner corners of my eyes and centre of my lids. I haven’t applied this all over as a powder, but would imagine it would give you a nice subtle, healthy glow. I would definitely recommend this product.

Silky, baked face powder gives your skin an instant, healthy-looking glow. Lightweight texture and subtle shimmer create more even-looking skin tone in one sweep. Talc-free.”

I can definitely agree with this description. This luminizing powder also comes in two different shades, Dawn Reflection (Peach) and Dusk Reflection (Bronze).

Everything Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Honestly Cream (USD $28)

The Honest Tinted Moisturizer comes in two different formulations. I chose this over the oil free version as I have dry skin and am looking for a more glowy and hydrating tinted moisturizer. This is the only product that I wasn’t impressed by, mainly due to the formulation as it is quite thick and difficult to spread. Honestly Cream is described as a golden honey with yellow undertones, which is a perfect shade description. I have fair skin with yellow undertones (for reference, I use Jane Iredale purepressed base in Warm Silk) and can usually pull off the second lightest shade. This shade would be way too dark if you have porcelain skin. I prefer using a dense brush rather than a beauty blender to blend this product, however it still requires quite a bit of work as it is thick in consistency. I would prefer if they made this formula more runny so it is easier to blend. The tube also makes it hard to squeeze out the product.

Description on website:

“Chamomile and calendula help to calm and soothe. Antioxidant-rich grapeseed oil, olive oil and aloe vera moisturize and condition skin. Infused with orange flower water, this tinted moisturizer offers true color and coverage for softer looking skin that’s perfected and protected. A mineral-based broad spectrum sunscreen using non-nano zinc oxide. Similar to a BB or CC cream with foundation-like coverage but a lightweight finish. Go face the day!”

Ingredients:

Active Ingredient: Zinc Oxide 13.6%

Inactive Ingredients: Water (Aqua, Eau)‬, Coconut Alkanes‬, Glycerin‬, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride‬, Isoamyl Laurate‬, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate‬, Dextrin Palmitate‬, Glyceryl Caprylate‬, Lecithin‬, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate‬, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate‬, Sodium Chloride‬, Calendula Officinalis (Marigold) Flower Extract‬, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract‬, Passiflora Incarnata Seed Oil, Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract‬, Allantoin‬, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil‬, Panthenol‬, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil‬, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil‬, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil‬, Bisabolol‬, Tocopherol‬, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil‬, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice‬, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Water Extract‬, Sorbitan Sesquioleate‬, Stearoyl Glutamic Acid‬, Isostearic Acid‬, Polyhydroxystearic Acid‬, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate‬, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate‬, Sodium Benzoate‬, Citric Acid‬, Potassium Sorbate‬. May Contain +/: Mica (CI 77019), Iron Oxides (CI 77491/77492/77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

I love that this is mineral based, which is perfect for sensitive skin, and offers broad spectrum protection. The ingredients in this are amazing and very safe for the skin. I also love how it smells like orange flower water! I recommend using this with a dense buffing brush (like the Sephora mineral powder brush), instead of a beauty blender so it blends much easier and provides more coverage. I do wish the formulation was a bit more runny and easier to work with. I would call this a light to medium coverage, but its definitely heavier than your average tinted moisturizer. It evens out the skin tone and offers a nice skin like finish (not too glowy and not too matte). I haven’t noticed this breaking me out or anything, which is amazing. The feel of this on the skin is surprisingly light, however you might need to set with a powder if you don’t like that tacky feeling. This tinted moisturiser is perfect for someone looking for a sheer wash of colour with the added sun protection for everyday wear. I will say though, this would work better if you have clear skin with minimal blemishes, otherwise you would need to layer this and use a lot of concealer, which could end up looking heavy or breaking you out.

*I have since purchased the oil free version and prefer it much better to this one. I have a part two haul here.

Eyeshadow Trio in Truly Warm Sable Brown (USD $25)

This was my favourite purchase from the line. I have never owned an eyeshadow palette before, mainly because I am intimidated by eyeshadow application. What I love about this trio is how user friendly it is. It includes a small how to card behind the mirror which was very helpful in showing where to place the eyeshadow. Also, the eyeshadows themselves are very easy to work with. The colours are absolutely gorgeous and perfect for day and night wear. It’s a very nice palette to achieve a warm, bronzy eye. My favourite colour is the light brown/soft stone colour on the left. The shadows are very pigmented, yet easy to blend. They aren’t super creamy, but they also aren’t chalky. I think it’s a good formulation. I have hazel eyes and think this trio pairs perfectly with my eye colour and would work well with brown/green eyes.

FullSizeRender 32FullSizeRender 33FullSizeRender 34FullSizeRender 35

I also think the size of each shadow is very generous and would last you a long time as they are very pigmented. The trio comes with two matte shades (the light brown on the left and the cream to the right), and a shimmer bronze (middle). I would have preferred the cream colour to have shimmer, but I’m not too fussed. I find these shadows are quite long wearing. When they do fade they don’t look messy, it still looks put together. Although the packaging is quite travel friendly, I would have preferred the same mirror packaging as the powder.

Truly Lush Mascara & Lash Primer (USD $22)

To be honest, at first I was not a fan of this mascara at all. However, it is now my go to mascara. I think that continued use and “drying up” of the mascara is what led me to love it. I also think that using the primer before the mascara made my lashes spidery, as they are already quite long, and I was not a fan of that look. So now I just use the primer or the mascara on their own. I find the mascara lengthens and curls more than it creates volume, however I still love the natural, fluttery effect it gives my lashes. The brush head is a perfect curve shape and size to really hold curl and get every lash. I also use the primer on it’s own when I just want that natural look and added nourishment. It comes out white, so after applying the primer I like to go over my lashes with my fingers and press together to get rid of the white. The one thing I don’t like about the primer is that it stings my eyes when I wash my wash it off, so be careful if you have sensitive eyes. I also wish the brush head was more curved as I find the straight head difficult to use and grasp every lash. The other thing I don’t like about the mascara is that it is quite wet and will smudge on my top lid if it is really hot outside, so it is not transfer proof. The mascara also feels heavy on the lashes which i’m not a fan of, but I love the look so much I don’t even care! It is also a lot harder to remove at the end of the day as I have to really tug at my eyes and use a lot more eye makeup remover than I would for my other mascaras. Other than that, I think this mascara/primer duo product is genius and everyone should give it a try!

Description on website:

True Velvet Eyeliner in Truly Black and Truly Cocoa (USD $16)

These liners are my second favourite item from the line! They are so long wearing and pigmented and creamy. They have definitely replaced my other high end liners. The black is very intense and perfect for a smokey eye. I have used the brown liner the most for a more natural look. It’s a perfect deep brown that can be lined in the inner rim and the top of the eyelid to create a wing. I love how they don’t smudge and last a long time on the eye. They will fade a little throughout the night, but nothing too intense. I also love the packaging of these liners. It comes with a really nice smudge tip applicator on one end to soften the liner and it also has the colour of the liner indicated on the packaging to make it easier to identify what colour it is. They also don’t irritate my eyes ,which is a plus! I would definitely recommend these liners!

Overall: I was really impressed with the quality and high performance of these products. I think that the price points are very reasonable considering the quality of safe and mostly natural ingredients that are in these gorgeous products. I also love how few ingredients are in the products, so are perfect for people with reactive, sensitive skin like mine. The packaging is also very pretty and well thought out.
