Benefits of Rooibos Tea: My Experience

Screen Shot 2016-07-02 at 12.44.38 pm

Hello Beauties!

If you’re anything like me and you are a tea-a-holic, I’m always on the look out for the next holy grail tea. I think I may have found it! Rooibos tea (or red bush tea) is a wonderful bright red medicinal, herbal beverage that is obtained from the Aspalathus linearis bush plant, native to South Africa. Rooibos tea is actually considered a herb, and not a true tea.

The taste is very unique and hard to describe…it’s almost nutty. It’s nothing like I’ve ever had before, so it took me some getting used to, but it’s something I crave now. It’s definitely a pleasant taste, not overpowering at all and pairs well with a lot of meals. You can add vanilla or honey to sweeten it. I’m someone who cannot stand tea that is too sweet or strong, and Rooibos tea fits perfectly for my taste buds! Make sure to get certified organic African red tea or Rooibos tea. You can get loose leaf or tea bags (which I prefer).

I’m someone who enjoys and craves tea all day long, and so I was looking for something that was caffeine free (unlike green tea) but had all the benefits, if not more, than my beloved green tea. Rooibos tea has quickly become my holy grail, go to tea. It has countless amazing health and skin benefits that I have personally experienced and thought I’d share with you.

So here is my experience…

I’m generally an anxious person who struggles to fall asleep at night. Because I was consuming so much green tea per day, my caffeine intake did not help with my insomnia. Rooibos tea is actually recommended by doctors to their patients who suffer from insomnia as it’s completely caffeine free and helps to reduct stress levels and relax the body before bed. Although I still do have some restless nights, overall a cup of this tea before bed does help to relax me significantly!

Although I am a healthy, young woman, I do suffer from weak bones, especially in the winter months as I don’t drink dairy milk. Rooibos tea is rich in calcium, manganese and fluoride minerals that assist in maintaining good bone structure and stronger teeth. I can say that this is completely true. No longer, do I hear and feel my bones “creaking,” especially in my knees.

Another amazing benefit of drinking this miracle tea is for the skin and anti ageing. My skin is absolutely in love with this tea! I have dry, sensitive and breakout prone skin, so anything that will help to hydrate it is a winner for me. I’m always on the lookout for a tea that has skin and anti ageing benefits. It is recommended to drink around 6 cups per day to see any results, which is very true. My skin clears up quicker, is more hydrated and soft, breaks out less, texture and skin tone is more even, and the list goes on. It also provides my skin with a lovely, healthy glow, that almost blurs any lines on the face. This is due to the alpha hydroxy acid and zinc content of Rooibos tea, which are very good for the skin. Not only are Alpha Hydroxy Acids, such as Glycolic Acid, naturally occurring in Rooibos tea, they are also found in skincare products, such as peels (the Environ Intensive Toner is amazing) to treat acne, wrinkles, and provide the skin with a healthy glow!

These are just the main benefits that I have experienced with this tea and would highly recommend everyone to try this beautiful tea and see the results for yourself! There are many articles online that have a comprehensive list of health and skin benefits that Rooibos tea provides. I hope this post helps anyone out there struggling with minor skin problems and love healing the skin naturally!

Beauty Tip of the Day: Wash Your Face with Tepid Water

Screen Shot 2016-04-05 at 3.03.06 pm

Hi Beauties!

Today, I thought I would share with you my experience using tepid water to wash my face versus when I used to use hot water. My skin type is dry/sensitive and is very break out prone if I use the wrong products. It is also very sensitive to weather changes and will become extremely dry and flaky in the winter months, and oily in the summer months. Since I made the decision to use only tepid water to wash my face, I have noticed a significant difference in my skin. It is less dry, I have noticed a reduction in redness and breakouts, and the overall suppleness of my skin. I began to notice a trend that in the winter months, my skin would break out more, becoming very irritated and dry. I linked it to the use of hot water to wash my face since it is colder and that is what you would tend to do. In the summer months, I always have flawless skin because I use tepid, sometimes cool water to wash my face.

It is suggested that the right temperature of the water for your face is warm or tepid water. You can try experimenting to see what temperature is comfortable for you and it should not burn your finger when under the tap. So why is it important to use tepid, warm water? It is said that this temperature not only unclogs the pores, but it also maintains your skin natural oils. If the water is too hot, you will strip your skin of the natural oils, causing it to become very dry and irritated. However, if the water is too cold it cannot sufficiently remove the daily oil and dirt that is trapped in your pores. Its all about a balance! This may sounds very simple and basic, but it has made such a significant improvement in my skin. I used to think that washing my face with hot water will somehow dry out my pimples, but it only made things worse. I hope this beauty tip has helped you out! Don’t forget to like, follow, and comment!

love always,

KORA ORGANICS Luxurious Rosehip Body Oil Review

Hello Beauties!

Today I will be reviewing the KORA ORGANICS Luxurious Rosehip Body Oil. You all know how much I absolutely adore this line of certified organic skincare because of my very sensitive, troublesome skin. I am very particular of what products I use on my skin, both face and body, because I am prone to breakouts and eczema. I have tried a lot of different products from the KORA range and so far have been absolutely impressed with pretty much everything I have tried. The quality of ingredients and the results you get is really amazing. I bought this product to help even out my skin tone and add hydration because I have really dry skin on my face and body. I also use the KORA Essential Body Wash, which works great with this product. I also use a derma roller on my body once a week to help build collagen, encourage cell turnover and help reduce some light marks I have leftover on my body from previous breakouts.

Previous to using certified organic body care, I used conventional body washes and scrubs that would irritate my skin and cause bumps to form on my skin. What I love about the KORA body range, the body wash and body rosehip oil in particular, is how light they feel on my skin. I cannot use coconut oil or any heavy oils on my skin because it will get clogged. I aim to use lighter, water based products on both my face and body. The Luxurious Rosehip Body Oil is great because it is such a light, watery oil that doesn’t clog my skin, hydrates it overnight leaving my skin silky soft in the morning, provides a nice healthy glow, and evens out my skin tone beautifully. I prefer to use this when I don’t have any active breakouts, however it works wonders when applied to small red bumps from ingrown hairs. It gets rid of them overnight! This is my second bottle of this heavenly goodness, so you know it’s good!

“A carefully blended powerful treatment Body Oil combining Noni Extract, and Organic Rosehip providing the skin with a rich source of antioxidants and Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’S). EFAs are important in preventing damage to skin tissues. This Luxurious Body Oil hydrates and replenishes the skin’s moisture levels. It improves skin tone and texture and leaves the skin feeling radiant, soft and healthy.”

“For the ultimate bath experience put a few drops of KORA Organics Luxurious Rosehip Body Oil into the bath to create a super moisturising bath experience. Alternatively, for a great after shower or after bath experience, warm several drops of this delicate, luxurious oil in the palms of the hands and rub all over the body into moistened skin. An essential multi-purpose, nourishing body oil designed to hydrate and illuminate the skin.”

Ingredients: Rosa eglentaria (Rose Hip) Oil*, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, d-alpha Tocopheryl Acetate (Soyabean derived Natural Vitamin E), Punica granatum (Pomegranate) Oil*, Morinda citrifolia (Noni Fruit)*, Fragrance (Parfum), Limonene**. *Ingredient from Organic Farming. **From Essential Oils.

This product has the typical rosehip oil scent, which I can’t quite describe. It’s not a terribly offensive smell, but it is also not the most amazing smell either. I happen to really like the scent. The scent doesn’t linger very strongly on the skin, especially when left to soak in overnight.

Blended Out

As I said, this oil is very light and watery so it does have a runny consistency. It is incredibly easy to blend and spread over a large surface area of skin. It does take a little while to soak in after application, I’d say about 10 minutes and you shouldn’t have that oily feeling anymore. I like to press and dab it into the skin after i’ve applied it everywhere so that it dries quicker. It leaves your skin feeling so silky soft, supple, hydrated, and comfortable.

IMG_7136 IMG_7138

To use the product, just tip over the bottle and the product drips out. I really like the control and amount of product the top dispenses. However, I don’t like how the oil seeps around the top and down the bottle which can leave it feeling oily. I love the positive affirmation inscribed at the back, which reads confidence, as I feel like this product has definitely given me my confidence back.

Results: With continued use, results took up to a couple of weeks for me to see a difference with my uneven skin tone and texture. However, after the first use, my skin instantly felt and looked hydrated, glowy, smooth and supple. This product also doesn’t break me out, which is amazing for an oil!

Size: 80 mL / 2.7 fl.oz.

Skin Type: For all skin types. I find this is particularly good for dry, sensitive skin.

Price: AU$59.95. Although this is very pricey, the amount of product is reasonable and the results are worth it if you have uneven skin tone. It also lasts a while if you use it once/twice a week. Mine lasted for around 5-6 months.

Rating: 5/5

Recommend? Absolutely Yes! Because of it’s price, I would suggest this product to people who are concerned with uneven skin tone and texture on their body.

Environ Intensive Revival Masque Review

Hello Beauties!

Today I will be reviewing another holy grail skincare product, Environ’s Intensive Revival Masque. What I love about Environ is the minimal, but highly concentrated and effective ingredients used in their products to achieve maximum results. This is my second tub of this masque, which goes to show how much I love this product! I’m very picky when it comes to skincare as I expect to see results either within the first use or a couple of uses. This product did not disappoint me at all! I was recommended by my aesthetician to try this product because my skin is really dry, uneven, dull and I needed help to lighten some red marks on my face. My skin type is dry/sensitive breakout prone and in the winter time it is extremely dry. This product really helped to not only add moisture to my skin and help reduce redness and my smile lines, but also was very effective in instantly brightening, tightening, and gradually fading the red marks on my face. This product is best used during autumn/winter when the skin is very dry.

This masque has been described as a “facelift in a bottle,” because of its ability to reduce lines and wrinkles, lighten pigmentation marks, tighten and smooth the skin, giving a youthful radiant appearance. It uses three main acids to achieve these results, which include Asiatic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Mandelic Acid. As I’m very breakout prone, I’m always hesitant to try new products out, but now I know to trust Environ skincare. It never breaks me out, but rather helps to significantly reduce any redness and inflammation! After the first use, my complexion was instantly brighter and more even, adding a nice youthful glow. My pores looked smaller and my face felt tighter. Because of all the acids in this product, there is a sunburn alert and you should always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen. I would recommend the Jane Iredale Purepressed Base, which is a sunscreen, foundation, and concealer all in one. A tip is to use this mask right before makeup application if you have trouble with powder foundation creasing and accentuating smile lines, as I experienced none of this after application!

Description: The Environ® Intensive Revival Masque has a unique combination of revolutionary ingredients
Asiatic, Mandelic and Lactic Acid that make the skin appear more luminous, smoother and

Key Ingredients:
• Asiatic Acid
• Lactic Acid
• Mandelic Acid

• Research over many years has shown that Asiatic Acid promotes the synthesis of growth
factors that are important in the regenerative processes of the skin.
• Lactic Acid is a powerful promoter of the natural hydrating factors of the skin.
• Mandelic Acid works in synergy with Lactic and Asiatic Acid in creating a smoother, younger
and more refined skin appearance.

Aqua (Water), Pentylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Lactic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Propylene Glycol, PEG-40 Stearate, Xanthan Gum, Mandelic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Ceteareth-20, Disodium EDTA.

I cleanse my face with the Environ Interactive Cleansing Gel, and then exfoliate with the Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub so that the mask can penetrate deeper into the skin. Apply a thin layer of the mask all over face, neck and décolleté. I was recommended to leave the mask on between 20-30 minutes, however if you really need the moisture to come back into the skin, you can leave it on for longer, but I find that 30 minutes is long enough. After the time is up, I like to rinse with tepid water with a cotton pad. Do not use any chemical exfoliating toners or products that contain any active acid ingredients as the acids in the mask will already be exfoliating dead skin cells overnight. All you need to do is follow up with a gentle and soothing moisturiser. I like to use the Dr Spiller Collagen Creme, which is fantastic at locking in moisture. I use this mask about 1-2 times a week. When you first start using this product, because it is so strong, you should start off with using it once a week, and then slowly build to 2-3 times a week.

Results for me were instant. I noticed my skin was smoother, brighter and more even. My skin felt tighter and more plump. The smile lines I had were becoming less apparent with each use. Your skin does peel a little overnight if you have any dry patches or scabs. This mask is great at healing any wounds at a faster pace. This is especially good for large pores around the nose! Obviously the fading of the red marks will take a little time, but I saw a significant reduction within the fourth use. On nights I don’t use this mask, I do use the Environ Alpha Toner Forte, which has Glycolic Acid, so that is also helping to lighten up the red marks.

It definitely has a strong, potent scent because of all the acids, although it isn’t unbearable.

The texture is very light, watery, creamy and easy to spread all over the face. It’s whitish in colour, although goes clear on face. Once it starts to slightly dry (although still stays creamy) on the face, you can feel your skin tightening, but it isn’t so tight that you can’t move it. It’s not uncomfortable, however if you have any open wounds, it will sting for a little but will go away very shortly.

My Skin Type and Who is this for?

My skin type is dry to very dry (in the winter especially), sensitive and breakout prone. It’s very uneven, dull, and fair in complexion. This mask is suitable for uneven skin texture and sun damaged skin.

Shelf Life:

24 months unopened 10 – 12 weeks period after opening.

Packaging: 50ml (1.7 fl oz) jar with special spatula.

Price: AUD $120

Rating: 5/5

Recommend? 100% Yes! Although it is expensive, it will last you a while, and you will see instant results. This would most definitely benefit women with more mature skin or very dry, uneven skin.

Where to Buy: Due to the strength and specificity of each Environ product, you will have to purchase this at an Environ Stockist. To search for one near you, click here.

Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub Review

Now I don’t know about you guys, but exfoliating plays a big part in my skincare regime. Exfoliating is possibly my most favourite part of my routine. It is very important to exfoliate and remove any dead skin, allowing your serums/night creams to penetrate further in the skin and work immensely better. It is better to exfoliate your skin at night so that it doesn’t become too sensitive during the day with the sun, and because you are buffing away the free radicals from the day off your skin. Because my skin is very sensitive and dry, I will only exfoliate when necessary, about 1-2 times a week. I used to over exfoliate my skin about twice a day everyday, which ruined my skin! I have learnt that too much exfoliation will do more damage than good. I have struggled to find a good gentle, yet exfoliating facial scrub for years! Most exfoliants I have used broke me out so bad, but this one has never broken me out. It helps clear my skin faster, revealing a brighter layer of youthful looking skin. My beautician recommended to me the Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub as part of my skincare routine, along with my 3 steps; cleanse, tone, and moisturize. I couldn’t be happier with the results! This is by far the best facial exfoliant I have ever used. It is gentle enough for sensitive skin, but exfoliating enough to buff away any dead skin cells. I have swatches of this scrub on my skincare routine post (here).

“This skin polishing scrub with finely-granulated Corn Cob Meal gently removes dulling surface debris, allowing for improved absorption of moisturizing treatments. Skin is left with a smooth, healthy-looking finish. Formulated without artificial fragrances and colors.”

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Disodium Cocoamphodipropionate, Glyceryl Stearate, Zea Mays (Corn) Cob Meal, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 20, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Citric Acid, Malva Slyvestris (Mallow) Extract, Hedera Helix (Ivy) Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Sambucus Nigra Flower Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Parietaria Officinalis Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Tocopheryl Acetate, Potassium Sorbate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Sodium Benzoate, Disodium EDTA, Butylene Glycol, Benzyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

Feel/Consistency: Most facial exfoliants have very abrasive, uneven pumice stone granules that actually tear the skin and could potentially scar. The Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub however is perfectly finely milled using Corn Cob meal to gently, but effectively buff away any dead skin. It feels very comfortable, even with my sensitive skin, to scrub away at the dead skin. It feels almost as though there are tiny sand particles gently exfoliating your skin. The consistency is not too thick, but not too watery, and slightly creamy. It is by far the best consistency with facial scrubs in my opinion. Your skin afterwards is baby’s bottom soft! It feels so clean and smooth, but not stripped in any way.

Skin Type: This product is recommended for skin with excess oil production. However, my skin is sensitive/dry and it works just fine. You just have to try it and see if it works for you!

Packaging: I love how this comes in a squeeze tube, as it allows you to not only control the amount of product you want, but also to get every ounce of product out.

Price: Around $AU 50. The price is so worth it for the results you get.

Size: 2.5oz/75ml.

Longevity: As you should only exfoliate 1-2 times a week, this product should last you a while. The size and amount of product is very decent. The consistency is also quite thick, so you only need the smallest amount.

Recommend? Yes. Dermalogica is a wonderful brand that perfectly infuses nature with science. They really understand how the skin works and what it needs to produce the best and quickest results. You can read all of the amazing reviews online of all their products.

Kora Organics “Essential Body Wash” Review

photo 1 photo 2

Hello Beauties!

Today I have a very exciting review on one of my favourite Kora Organics products/body washes ever! For a while, I have been struggling with constant breakouts on my body from harsh soaps, pore clogging shampoos, and scrubs. Because my water based face skincare routine has been working for me so well, I thought I would adopt this same concept to my body skincare routine. I have been struggling to find a good water based body wash that won’t clog my pores or irritate my skin for a while now. It has been especially hard to find a good certified organic body wash as most products contain coconut oil, which breaks my skin out like CRAZY! It wasn’t until I stumbled across Miranda Kerr’s fabulous and luxurious certified organic skincare line, that I thought I would give her body wash a try. I have definitely been a huge fan of her products in the past and so I had high hopes for the “Essential Body Wash.” This body wash is AMAZING! It completely blew me away how well it worked and how much my skin loved it! The ingredients are also very gentle and work to fight against free radicals and acne. The body wash includes one of my favourite ingredients, Green Tea, which makes up the majority of this product. I love how simple and effective the ingredients are.

Like the name suggests, the Kora Organics body wash is DEFINITELY an essential to my body skincare routine. I could not live without it. I have most certainly found my holy grail body wash. I have noticed less and less breakouts on my body to the point of hardly noticing any at all now! This has completely boosted my self esteem and I couldn’t be happier! I am definitely a very harsh critic when it comes to my beauty products and how well they work, so when I recommend something I have truly put it to the test and completely believe in it. If you are suffering from body breakouts I would highly suggest you give this product a try and see the amazing results for yourself. I know that everyone’s skin is different and you may react to certain ingredients differently. However, I have sensitive skin all over that is prone to acne if my products contain a lot of pore clogging ingredients, and this body wash has not broken me out, but rather healed my body breakouts a lot faster. This product is also recommended for all skin types, so you just have to give it a try!

“A delicious aromatic blend of organically sourced Essential Oils, Ylang Ylang, Noni Extract, Sandalwood, Rose and Patchouli. Free from Parabens and skin irritants, KORA Organics Body Wash while cleansing and hydrating helps provide the skin with all over anti-oxidant protection. Leaves the skin feeling fresh and invigorated. “

Foaming when water is added

Foaming when water is added.

Though this product is water based, it does feel slightly gel like and moisturizing. It feels very nice on the skin; not too watery, thin, or too thick. It is the perfect consistency. Because it doesn’t contain all of the harsh foaming agents like SLS, it doesn’t foam up as much. However, it also doesn’t not foam. When water is added, it does foam up, but only a little bit, which I really like. You can still get a decent foam, where your skin feels really clean, but not stripped. This product is perfect in that it’s not too drying or too moisturizing on your skin. I hate it when products leave a film of moisture on your skin, because that’s how I break out. This product does not do that, which is why it is perfect. Your skin just feels fresh, clean, invigorated, and comfortable.

Smell: Like all Kora Organics products, this body wash smells absolutely DIVINE. It smells a lot like the foaming cleanser. It reminds me of the Australian bush, which must be from the Sandalwood oil. It makes your shower smell like a spa! The scent also lingers a bit on your skin afterwards, which is a nice plus! I don’t find this to irritate my skin at all.

Longevity: I think you do get quite a generous amount of product. You only need a little bit to cover your entire body, because it does foam up quite well. If you use body wash everyday, I would say this would last up to a month and a half or two.

Packaging: As always the aqua blue packaging is beautiful and calming. I love how there are positive affirmations at the back of each product. The word “understanding” is placed on the back of this product, which I love. The only fault I have with the packaging is that the product sometimes leaks a little in the lid when I open it and some water also spills out from my shower. I think if they made the lid more secure, it would fix this problem, however it doesn’t bother me that much.

Price: AU $37.50. I think that the price is reasonable for the amount, quality of ingredients, longevity, and its effectiveness.

Size: 150 mL / 5.07 fl.oz. The size is definitely very generous for a certified organic product, especially it being a body wash. It can definitely last you a good while.

Recommend? Yes, Yes, Yes. This is the most amazing water based, non irritating or pore clogging body wash I have ever tried! A truly god sent product.

Rating: 5/5

Where to Buy: If you live in Australia, you can pretty much get Kora Organic products from any David Jones store. Or you can purchase from the Kora Organics Website, where they ship internationally:

Beauty Tip: Limit the Amount of Products You Put on Your Skin

Woman Applying Moisturizer

With years and years of trial and error on my skin, I have definitely learnt what to do and what NOT to do. One of the biggest beauty tips i’ve learnt and practice now is to limit the amount of products I use on my skin to avoid suffocating it and clogging my pores. Layering and layering products on your skin does more harm than good. It doesn’t let your skin breathe, because you are suffocating it with all these different mixtures of ingredients. I used to use around 6-8 products with my skincare and makeup routine. Now, with my skincare routine, I only cleanse, tone, and moisturize. This has significantly helped my skin as it’s no longer irritated or clogged like it used to be. It also makes your routine ten times faster! My makeup routine now also consists of three steps. I use the same mosturizer (no added primer), my powder, and a setting spray. Keeping everything simple is the way to go!

Sue Dann, the national trainer for the German skincare range, Dr Spiller (I use their wonderful collagen cream), explains in an article why too much product is really bad for your skin. Dann explains that part of why this luxury anti-ageing brand is so successful is that, their formulations “…work with th skin you have, rather than against it.” Sue explains that;‘”Good skin, like a good relationship, is the result of good habits practised daily, over the long term. It requires regular application of home care prescribed by a skin care professional.” Basically, what she is getting at here is to stick to a simple, good quality skincare regime ritually and avoid changing up your products, as well as using a lot of different products all at once. I couldn’t agree more with her! Your skin can’t handle a lot of different products all at once. If you just stick to your simple 3 steps, cleanse, tone, and moisturize, your skin will love you!

Best Beauty Tips for Clear Skin

Hello Beauties!

I thought I would share with you my secrets to help maintain clear skin. Now, I know everyone’s skin is different, however these tips are basic and essential, but very often underrated and misused. Everyone has a different skin types, mine being dry/sensitive skin, however, I believe if you follow these basic beauty tips, you can all achieve beautiful, clear skin.

1. Beauty Tip: Drink Plenty of Water

I did a whole blog post on this! This is by far the most underrated and important beauty tip out there. I never believed that something as simple and basic as drinking an average of 2L of water a day, could drastically improve your complexion. But it does! Drinking water is essential in flushing out toxins, encourages cell regeneration for clear skin, and it also naturally gives your skin a healthy and radiant glow.

2. Beauty Tip: Exercise

You don’t have to do drastic exercise in order to get clear skin, but I do recommend choosing something that you enjoy and will get the blood flowing. I would recommend Yoga and Pilates as they are quite relaxing, especially for the mind. Exercise releases endorphins, which makes you happy and if you’re happy, you’re not stressed. For me and a lot of other people, stress is a major factor in breakouts, so keeping stress to a minimum is the way to go! Getting the blood flowing whilst exercising helps to circulate oxygen and blood flow, helping to maintain a clear complexion.

3. Beauty Tip: Green Tea With Lemon

This is my best beauty tip yet! Again, I have a whole blog post on it. There are endless benefits of this tea, but the main one for me is that it definitely helps clear my skin faster, as well as to prevent breakouts in the future. It also gives your skin a natural, youthful glow. It is honestly the miracle of all teas! I would suggest around 3-4 cups a day to see results.

4. Beauty Tip: Sleep

Again, another underrated beauty tip. It’s not called beauty sleep for no reason! This is the time your body regenerates, and your skin heals itself. I would suggest 8-10 hours of sleep. The earlier you go the bed, the better. Not only will you prevent those dark circles, your skin has had time to heal overnight, and you wake up with clearer skin.

5. Beauty Tip: Mineral Makeup & Makeup Free Days

If your serious about clearing your skin, quality non comedogenic mineral makeup is the way to go. From foundation, bronzer, blush, anything you put on your skin should be mineral pigments. I would suggest the brands I have been recommended from beauticians that I have truly love and trust; Inika (for their fabulous blush) and Jane Iredale (for their full coverage Purepressed base and bronzers). I swear by these brands as they not only perform but heal your skin and let it breathe at the same time. There is not point in having great skincare and then using comedogenic foundation that will clog your pores. Trust me, i’ve been down that road! I also suggest going makeup free as often as you can, especially when you’re just at home. This makes a significant difference, it lets your skin breathe and heal.

6. Beauty Tip: A Balanced Diet

This is also another misconception/underrated beauty tip. I truly believe you are what you eat. Makeup artist to the stars and creator of RMS beauty, Rose-Marie Swift, states that, “The skin is a mirror to your stomach so whatever is going on in the intestinal tract will reflect itself through the skin.” I couldn’t agree more! You don’t have to be completely strict with yourself in becoming a vegan or vegetarian or anything, but just make sure your body gets its nutrients with a lot of healthy fruits, nuts, and vegetables. I personally see a difference in my skin when i eat avocadoes, blueberries, and almonds. It makes all the difference. I would also suggest to get rid of diary milk completely, as well as soy milk. I’ve noticed significantly less cystic breakouts on my back as well as my face. Many people cannot digest dairy milk very well and will cause breakouts. Something like almond milk is a better and tastier alternative (in particular the Blue Diamond Almond Breeze brand & their chocolate version is to die for!).

7. Beauty Tip: Simple but Effective Skincare Regime

Everyone’s skin is different so you can tweak a little where you need to. However, I have found that my skin, as well as many others, reacts better to a simple and gentle, but effective approach to skincare. I would suggest sticking with what you know works for you, and to not keep changing up your skincare routine. Keep it the same day and night. Keep it simple with 3 steps: Cleanse, tone, and moisturize. You can also follow up with a gentle facial exfoliant once a week, no more. Having 3 steps limits the amount of product on your face, which limits the amount of breakouts. I would recommend a cleanser that is simple and gentle with no parabens, no fragrance, no colour, and oil free. Just simple and plain that will get your makeup off, as well as to cleanse your skin. I would recommend washing your face with cleanser twice; once to remove makeup and once to cleanse. Because my skin is sensitive, I use gentle exfoliating cotton pads with my cleanser when removing makeup to gently exfoliate the skin. Then, you should choose a toner that specifically is designed for preventing and treating breakouts. My favourite is a glycolic acid based toner. Again, make sure the ingredient list is short and simple (for all three steps). Whether you have dry or oily skin, moisturizing is essential! Choose something that is soothing to breakouts (something with Chamomile is perfect), as well as anti ageing. Finally, follow up with a gentle facial exfoliant once a week to get rid of dead skin cells. No rough or scratchy beads, but your do want something that you can feel but if finely milled. I would recommend the Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub.

8. Beauty Tip: Steam & Squeeze Facials

Find a beautician that has great reviews and that people recommend. Steam and squeeze facials are the fastest and most effective way in getting the gunk out of your pores. It is better than doing it yourself and accidentally leaving behind marks. However, if you have to do it at home, please use toilet paper or tissue to squeeze, and follow up with an ice facial and toner.

9. Beauty Tip: Ice Facials

I have a whole blog post on this wonderful beauty tip! This is the best way to quickly soothe and get rid of any inflammation on the skin. Apply and rub gently in circular motions an ice cube all over the face until completely melted. It also gives your skin a nice glow, and the inflammed spots appear more flat! Ice Facials can be done twice daily or more if needed.

I hope you found these beauty tips helpful. If you are consistent with these tips, you will start to see results in no time! I’m sure there are many more out there I have yet to discover, but these are the ones I know and stick by. If you have any other tips, please feel free to leave them below!

What Your Skin Is Telling You

Your skin is the largest organ, and how you take care of it will show through. Your skin can say a lot about how much sleep you get, your diet, hygiene, as well as the amount of exercise you do. That is why it is important to keep a healthy balance amongst all these factors to promote clear skin. You are the only person who knows your skin best and what it reacts to, as well as what it needs. Sometimes, no matter how hard you work on your skin, you still can’t find the underlying causes of your acne or pimples. So, I’d thought I would share with you a link to an interesting website, where a Chinese acne face map can help further guide you to understand some of the underlying causes of acne spots on certain areas of your face. It covers the forehead, nose, temples and between the brows, left cheek, right cheek, jawline and chin. This map was designed to show how your skin most often reflects your internal health, so by detecting where on your face you get spots most often, you can identify the cause, as well as prevent it. I find this acne face “mapping” extremely useful as it gives you a better idea on what might be causing your acne spots dependent on the location on your face. The website also provides helpful solutions in regards to the different areas on your face that you may experience breakouts. I hope that this face map can help some of you out there who are struggling to figure out the cause of your breakouts, as well as help you find solutions in preventing breakouts.

Beauty Tip of the Day: Drinking Water

Drinking water to help keep your skin clear and hydrated is one of the most underrated and under practiced beauty tips. I used to be one of those people that didn’t believe what everyone was saying about drinking a lot of water and it’s ability to help clear your skin. I would drink water, tea, and healthy juices, however I never used to drink the amount of water I do today. One week, I decided to test this theory out. So, I started to drink between 1,500-2L of water a day. At first it was hard, but soon enough, I started to see really good results! Your skin starts to develop a really natural, healthy glow. I started to notice less breakouts, and yes, clearer skin. Not only did my face get clearer, but I also noticed a dramatic difference with my body breakouts. I was shocked because it’s such a simple beauty tip, but so effective. If you’d like to try this out for a week, I would suggest to steer clear from any soda or sugary juices. If you are craving other drinks besides water, you can have healthy teas, such as green tea with lemon. The recommended amount of water a day is 2L a day, but if that’s too much for you at first, i’d suggest 1,500L. Or you can just slowly build up to your own pace; really any water is better than nothing. Drinking water really flushes out your system; which also means that you will be heading to the bathroom more often! Another tip is to always bring a water bottle with you wherever you are going, so that you are constantly reminded to drink, and you can fill it up throughout the day.
